DRESS CODE
The Thornhill Club’s dress codes reflect and maintain the standards desired by our membership. All members and their guests are kindly asked to adhere to these standards of dress when using any of The Thornhill Club’s sports, dining or social facilities. Members are responsible for their guests’ adherence to the Club dress code.
Guests are asked to drop their bags off at the Bag Drop area located by our Golf Shop, which is a separate building to the northwest of the Clubhouse.
All guests for the Long or Valley Courses are asked to check in with the Golf Shop prior to teeing off.
Male (All Ages):
- Golf slacks
- Tailored golf shorts
- Knee socks
- Sports socks
- Shorts (Must be worn with knee or sport socks)
- Shirts must have collars (mock collars are acceptable) and be tucked in
- Golf approved footwear is mandatory (non-metal spikes)
- Denim clothing is not permitted on the golf course, practice facility, putting green and chipping green
- Shorts are not to exceed four inches above the knee
- Cargo shorts
- Tube socks
- Headgear worn backwards
Female (All Ages):
- Slacks
- Capri Pants
- Skirts
- Tailored golf shorts
- Golf shirt (sleeveless must have collar and golf shirts worn untucked must be designed as such)
- Sweaters
- Knee socks
- Proper golf socks are required with shorts
- Golf approved footwear is mandatory (non-metal spikes)
- Denim clothing is not permitted on the golf course, practice facility, putting green and chipping green
- Tube socks
- Golf shoes with metal spikes
- Headgear worn backwards
Male (All Ages):
- Tennis shorts,
- Tennis shirt
- Tennis socks
- Tennis warm-up suits (recommended for wear in the Clubhouse)
- Denim
Female (All Ages):
- Tennis skirt
- Tennis dress
- Tennis shorts
- Tennis shirt
- Tennis socks
- Tennis warm-up suits (recommended for wear in the Clubhouse)
- Tank tops
- Denim
CLUBHOUSE DINING
- Smart casual dress
- Denim (unless a specific dress code is prescribed for a particular function)
- Men: Headwear is not to be worn on the main floor of the Clubhouse with the exception of the curling rink and the men’s locker room.
HAWTHORNE DINING ROOM AND ALL LOUNGES
- Smart casual dress
- Halters
- Tank tops
- Shorts
- Headwear – not permitted in the Stanley Thompson Lounge (except for females)
SUNFLAKE GRILL
▪ Appropriate sports attire
▪ Smart casual dress
Male and Female
- Appropriate athletic attire suitable for exercise including footwear
- Warm-up suites are permitted and recommended for wear in the Clubhouse
- Other than the locker room fitness attire is not be be worn in other areas of the Clubhouse
Note: Members are expected to be properly dressed when going to or from the Fitness Centre
Appropriate dress for exercise includes:
- Sweat suits
- Shorts and t-shirts
- Lycra Leotards
- Athletic shoes with rubber soles that have not been worn on the street or tennis courts
- Tank tops
- Tank tops are not permitted in any areas of the Clubhouse outside the Fitness Centre
Includes Personal Communication, Gaming and iPad type Devices
- Use of personal communication, gaming and iPad type devices in the Clubhouse and on the golf course should be done discreetly so as not to affect the enjoyment of the Club by others.
- Devices must be set to vibrate/silent while at the Club
- Avoid Telephone conversations in the Club dining areas (Sunflake Grill, Sunflake Patio, Hawthorne Dining Room), golf courses and golf shop
- Telephone conversations are permissible in the Stanley Thompson and Briar Lounges and Heather Cafe
- Persons with disabilities may use Personal Communication and other Devices as assistance whenever necessary on Club property
- Texting, receiving and sending emails is permissible in all areas of the Club
